About the Owner - Rebecca
My name is Rebecca, I'm 26, single, and I live at home. I used to live in Florida and I graduated high school from a private high school with the honor of Distinguished Christian High School Student Award. I then moved on to the local community college to get my Associate in Arts degree where I graduated in December of 2007. In January of 2008 I started at a University and graduated in May of 2010. In July I made a big move to another state which is Virginia and I love living here. I did enjoy my time not having to work or go to school. Currently, I am back into school to become a registered nurse and then to work at the hospital in my town. I intend on getting my Bachelor of Science in Nursing once I get a job at the hospital.
I love all kinds of music plus I play the piano as well as sing and write songs/poems/short stories. One of my biggest passions is graphic designs and I love playing around with Photoshop with different fonts and brushes to see what I can come up with. I also love interior design and my style is modern-modern country, but I also love the cottage look and the rustic look (Italian/Spanish). My favorite sports are basketball, tennis, soccer, and volleyball. My absolute favorite sport is tennis and I want to learn it better. My favorite subjects are math and english, and even though I'm not perfect I am very good at both subjects. I am a spelling and grammar fanatic, but I do make mistakes and I will own up to them. I took Finance at my last university and I got in A in it, and any business person that took Fiance can tell you that, that class is not an easy course. My father was a project leader for a contractor at the space center, and he has taught me a lot about computers and over the years I have taught him some things as well. I love electronics and I have a desktop, a laptop (alienware), tablet, ipod touch, ipod shuffle, mp3 player, bluray player, and a digital camera. I have a weird fasination with video cards in computers and I cannot explain why lol.

My Thyroid Journey
First signs showed up when I was 9 years old -- I was eating wild rice and couldn't breathe. My mom didn't believe me so she made it again only that time it was worse. She didn't understsand how someone could choke on a grain of rice so she cooked it for a third time and it got worse that time. After the third time, she stopped cooking it altogether because she thought there was something I was allergic to. I gained a lot of weight when I was 12 years old, but we thought it was because my dad and I kept eating fast food. Between the ages of 16 and 17 I had other issues with breathing while I was trying to swallow food. One of the first times was at Taiho when I was eating filet migon and the rice (with veggies, egg, soy sauce, & etc). I stopped breathing completely and I don't know for how long, but I also couldn't talk or drink anything. It took a few moments before my dad (who was talking to my friend's mom) noticed and he got it where I could breathe again. We concluded that I was allergic to MSG or soy sauce and I never went to that restaurant again. During the summer before my senior year, my mom wanted me to get tested for thyroid disease because it's genetic. To humor her we went to the local hospital to get a ultrasound done on my thyroid and they said i had a cyst on it (which has a potential for cancer). We then went to a Ear, Nose, & Throat (ENT) doctor who said he couldn't read the ultrasound even though he could take my thyroid out which I was scared of. One of my friends' mother is a retired OB-GYN and she told us to go to Mayo Clinic which was about 3 hours away so we went there and made an appointment to come back for a needle biopsy. About a week later (and exactly 1 week from my 18th birthday) my mom and I were back at Mayo Clinic. They decided to do an ultrasound before the biopsy and said that everything was fine - one side was larger than the other, but just to watch it. So back in my hometown (after the mayo clinic) I had two bloodtests done for my PCP yet both times she said I was fine so I just stopped the bloodtests. After 8 (EIGHT) years I asked my OB-GYN a few months ago to give me a blood test prescription for everything involving possible reason for weight gain so the results came back with my T3, T4, and triglyceriides were high (i know the latter is not directly linked to thyroid); however, my TSH was normal. I went on vacation to Virginia and one day my throat was so tight I could barely talk so we found a local doctor. She listed every symptom for an underactive thyroid and I checked every one of those things off. After being on 25mcg of Synthroid (levothyroxin is the generic) I have noticed a big difference, but I'm still not 100% better. The doctor that I have been seeing is a nephrologist which is a kidney (etc) doctor, but he is not an endocrinologist. Despite my levels rising and the fact that I still have symptoms, I will be making an appointment with an endocrinologist.
